A Rawalpindi court has sentenced five individuals accused of blasphemy to a combination of death sentences, life imprisonment, and a cumulative 100 years of incarceration.
The verdict, delivered on Tuesday, stems from cases brought forward by private groups in recent years, accusing numerous individuals of committing blasphemy online.
As per the court order issued by Rawalpindi Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Tariq Ayub, the accused received death sentences under Section 295C, life imprisonment under Section 295B, and ten years of imprisonment along with a Rs100,000 fine under Section 295A of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
Moreover, the court imposed further penalties, sentencing the accused to three years of imprisonment with a Rs100,000 fine for breaching Section 298A (derogatory remarks in respect of holy personages) of the PPC.
They were also sentenced to seven years of imprisonment with another Rs100,000 fine under Section 11 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca).
