Four security personnel and a driver were martyred and 15 others were injured in an attack on security forces vehicles in the Bagan area of Kurram district yesterday. The security forces vehicles were targeted as they escorted a relief convoy heading toward Kurram.
According to police, the attackers set three security forces vehicles on fire during the attack.
The martyrs include Lance Naik Qabil Khan, Lance Naik Abdul Rehman, Lance Naik Yasin, Sepoy Saqlain, and Sepoy Danish, while the injured include Havaldar Azeem, Naik Tauseef, Naik Niaz Muhammad, and Lance Naik Haroon.
The security personnel were conducting a rescue operation to safely evacuate drivers and vehicles trapped in the area when armed attackers suddenly opened fire on them. As a result of the attack, one driver was killed and three others were injured.
According to rescue sources, eight people, including two women, were injured during the attack and the return fire of the forces.
The situation in the area is tense after the attack. The 60 trucks in the security convoy were going from Tal to Parachinar, out of which 9 were safely delivered to the besieged area while 20 trucks were sent back to Tal.
According to driver Gul Faraz, when announcements of looting vehicles and looting goods from mosques started, people started coming out from all sides and after looting the trucks, they started setting them on fire.
According to the police, most of the returned trucks were looted and after looting about 30 trucks, several vehicles were set on fire.
Provincial Information Advisor Barrister Saif condemned the incident and announced strict action against the attackers. He said that the government will take strong action wherever vehicles have been targeted.
