ISLAMABAD: Five junior officers of Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), were issued termination notices for corruption, while two senior officials were saved during the investigation.
According to details, KDSO Sajjad allegedly patronized the two senior officials, named Hamidullah Khan and Sher Abbas, involved in the bogus meter scandal.
Sources have informed that Hameedullah Khan had already been suspended but all privileges were being granted to him and Sher Abbas had already been removed from the investigation.
The corruption related to the bogus meter was unearthed by the in-charge of the G6’s meter reading section. He informed the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the Secretary of Energy in writing, on which three inquiry committees were constituted.
Earlier in February, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) recommended an inquiry into an IESCO corruption scandal worth millions of rupees to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for investigation.
Relevant sources have informed that the NAB has directed FIA to conduct a merit-based inquiry into the corruption scandal and bring the culprits to justice.
Corruption has been alleged in the recovery of electricity bills and the installation of bogus meters. The anti-corruption watchdog has also directed the probing agency to bring the looted money back to the national exchequer.
