KARACHI: Five criminals were killed in a police shootout in the upscale Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area on Friday.
Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) South Zubair Nazir said that five alleged robbers have been killed in a police shootout in DHA Phase IV.
The criminals had broken into a house and the resident’s hostage. A police team was rushed to the scene and surrounded the house from all sides. The suspects opened fire at the police and were shot dead in retaliation.
Police are checking the criminal records of the criminals. Their dead bodies were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). Three of the suspects have been identified as Ghulam Mustafa, Muhammad Abid and Muhammad Riaz.
The criminals reached the bungalow in a double-cabin vehicle. Police also recovered the vehicle and weapons from the crime scene. Police investigators found criminal records of Abid and Ghulam Mustafa who were wanted in different cases.
Police said Abid and Ghulam Mustafa hailed from Bahawalpur, whereas Riaz belonged to Multan. Members of the intelligence bureau also participated in the operation.
