Pakistan has confirmed its first Mpox case of 2025, identified during a screening by Border Health Services at Bacha Khan International Airport in Peshawar, as reported by national media.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Health confirmed that the suspected case tested positive, bringing the total number of Mpox cases to 10 since the health emergency was declared, Express News reported.
The patient is believed to have traveled from Gulf countries. Health Coordinator Dr. Mukhtar Bharth emphasized the government’s efforts to protect the public, stating, “We have implemented robust screening systems at all airports, ensuring adherence to International Health Regulations. Both federal and provincial governments are working together to fight Mpox.”
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Health Advisor Ehtesham Ali confirmed the detection of the first Mpox case of 2025 at Peshawar Airport. Upon detection, the Public Health team responded immediately and transferred the patient to Police Services Hospital for further testing.
“The patient, a 35-year-old individual from Dubai, was confirmed positive for Mpox. We are now working on contact tracing, and the details of passengers in proximity to the patient will be shared with the District Health Officers (DHOs) for further action,” Ali added.
As of now, 10 Mpox cases have been reported in the province, with two in 2023, seven in 2024, and the first in 2025. Authorities are urging the public to maintain social distancing and stay alert.
