SKARDU: The first direct international flight on Monday arrived in the scenic town of Skardu on the occasion of the 76th Independence Day of Pakistan.
The first international flight of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) Flight PK-234 from Dubai landed in Skardu. The airport authorities presented a water cannon salute to the aircraft upon its arrival to mark the historic moment.
The passengers on board were welcomed with the iconic traditional caps of Gilgit-Baltistan and souvenirs. The captain of the flight ceremoniously opened the cockpit window and unfurled the national flag, in celebration of Pakistan’s Independence Day.
This gesture encapsulated the spirit of unity and pride that defines the nation on this historic day. After the landing of the first international flight, Skardu got the status of an international airport.

PIA announced the launch of its first-ever direct flight from Dubai to Skardu, marking a significant milestone in the promotion of tourism in northern region.
PIA spokesperson said this is a momentous occasion for PIA and for the people of Pakistan. He said the launch of this new flight route will make Skardu more accessible to international travelers and will help to promote tourism in this beautiful region
Skardu is a stunningly beautiful valley located at an altitude of 7,000 feet above sea level. It is surrounded by snow-capped mountains, pristine lakes, and lush green valleys.
“Skardu is a hidden gem, and we believe that it has the potential to become a major tourist hub in the region,” the spokesperson said. “This new flight route will make it easier for people to visit Skardu and experience all that it has to offer.”
