ISLAMABAD: Senator Shibli Faraz was appointed as the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting while Chairperson CPEC Lt Gen (r) Asim Saleem Bajwa was appointed as the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting in place of Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan.
“The prime minister … has been pleased to appoint Lt Gen (Rtd) Asim Saleem Bajwa as special assistant to the prime minister on information and broadcasting, in [an] honorary capacity, with immediate effect,” a notification issued by the Cabinet Division said.
A second notification read: “The prime minister has been pleased to remove Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan from the office of special assistant to the prime minister on information and broadcasting, with immediate effect.”
The reason for the changes announced was not immediately clear. It also remains unclear if Awan will be assigned another portfolio.
Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Shibli Faraz was appointed as the leader of the house in the Senate in August 2018. He is the son of acclaimed (late) poet Ahmed Faraz.
Lieutenant General (retd) Asim Bajwa is currently serving as chairperson of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority. Bajwa will serve as the authority’s head for a period of four years.
General Asim Bajwa is a retired Pakistan Army three-star general, who served as Commander Southern Command. Prior to that, he also served as Director-General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) from 2012 to 2016.
