ISLAMABAD: Federal government has decided to conduct a special audit of model colleges and higher secondary schools under the auspices of the Federal Directorate of Education.
According to sources, DG Federal Directorate of Education Dr Ikram Ali Malik has decided to fully investigate the alleged corruption and irregularities in the expenditure incurred in model colleges while a special team headed by Deputy Director Audit Kashif Kazmi has also been formed.
Sources further said Dr Ikram Ali Malik has sought complete details of fees and other necessary information in this regard.
“Complete details of fees, bank accounts, student funds, medical funds, and graduation funds received from children in the last four years along with details of staff salaries, evening shifts, and vehicle expenses have been sought,” sources said.
On the other hand, the audit team acquired the details of graduation funds and bank accounts for the last five years, while they have also decided to investigate corruption in the transport system.
Sources said the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) is making efforts to put in place an e-filing system in all schools and colleges as offices of the area education officers (AEOs) have already been computerized.
In the second phase, all colleges and higher secondary schools will be shifted to the e-filing system. Another major issue of operating 200 buses, which had been procured a couple of years ago but remained off the road due to the absence of a mechanism, has been resolved as recently the federal cabinet allowed the FDE to run these buses under a cost-sharing formula.
