A father has been arrested for allegedly killing his two daughters in the name of ‘honor’ in Sheikhupura, Punjab.
The victims, aged 22 and 19, were first poisoned and then electrocuted to make their deaths appear accidental, according to police. Authorities revealed that the father buried his daughters after the killings, but the case was registered four days later based on a complaint from their mother.
The accused father has been subsequently arrested.
Crimes committed in the name of honor are common in Pakistan, particularly in rural areas. However, in many cases, the accused escape due punishment due to loopholes in the law and inadequate police investigations. Recently, another disturbing case emerged in Sindh, where a woman’s legs were broken with axes by her father and other family members as she sought a divorce from her husband.
Following this horrific incident, local police have registered a case against six suspects, including the woman’s father and uncle.
