The search operation continues for a retired army officer and his daughter, who were swept away by floodwaters in DHA Phase 5, Islamabad, on Tuesday.
The tragic incident occurred at around 8:15 am yesterday, when Colonel (retd) Qazi Ishaq and his daughter, residents of Sector A, left home to reach the main gate.
Eyewitnesses said they were warned of a cloudburst and strong water flow moments before the car exited the street.
As they drove out, the vehicle was caught in the sudden flood and swept away. Onlookers said the water level rose rapidly, giving no time to escape.
Rescue teams have been working around the clock, but more than 24 hours later, there is still no sign of the missing duo. So far, only the car’s bumper has been recovered.
The search operation, which continued till 3:00 am, included the use of lifters to dig into the drainage channel in hopes of finding the victims.
Due to heavy rain and rising water in the Soan River, the operation was temporarily halted early this morning. However, rescue vehicles and personnel remain on-site and ready to resume efforts.
