ISLAMABAD: A protest was held against enforced disappearances outside the National Press Club in Islamabad today (Sunday), demanding early recovery of the ‘missing’ persons.
A large number of people including children and women carried portraits of their near and dear ones and urged the authorities to safely recover them.
The protestors demanded all ‘missing’ persons should be presented before the courts so that they could defend themselves. They observed that the families of missing persons were facing immense economic difficulties.
The protestors lamented that some of the persons are missing for the last decade but the government has failed to inform them about their whereabouts. Several political leaders of opposition parties also participated in the protest.
Talking exclusively to M.M, News, senior PPP leader Senator Farhatullah Babar criticized the PTI-led federal government saying that the government has not taken any measures to solve the issue of enforced disappearance.
“Since then the enforced disappearances has been institutionalised and neither the Parliament, nor the judiciary nor any civilian government was able to do anything about it,” he added.
Meanwhile, Senator Jahanzeb said that Babar said the impunity of crime was frightening as not a single perpetrator had been held to account. “Times and tides change and one day those responsible will have to account for their misdeeds,” he concluded.
