KHANEWAL: A fake pir (spiritual guide) set ablaze a young woman allegedly to free her of demons.
The incident took place in Tibba Sultanpur village of Khanewal district in central Punjab. The woman, aged 20, suffereed an intellectual disability and her family brought her to the fake exorcist believing she was possed by etheral spirits.
The fake exorcist set her on fire on the pretext of exorcising the demons. As a result, the woman suffered severe burn injuries on at least 70 percent of her body. The woman was being provided medical aid at a local facility. Police have arrested the fake exorcist, Masoom Shah, and registered a case against him.
Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar has taken notice of the incident and instructed relevant officials to provide the best medical care to the affected woman. Bazdar also ordered strict legal action against the perpetrator.
According to reports, police is attempting to cover up the incident. The suspect is reportedly receiving privileged treatment inside the station amid immense pressure.
Recently police arrested a fake faith healer allegedly molesting women in Shahdara areas of Lahore. The faith healer Baba Khalid is accused of molesting women in the area. Police received several complaints and eventually conducted a raid to arrest him.
Police said a case has been registered against the fake faith healer and the investigation against him was underway.
