Death of Taqir Aziz has left Pakistan in shock. He was one of the first TV anchors to gain commercial success by using the platform of the quiz show Neelam Ghar.

Born in 1936, Tariq Aziz started his career at Radio Pakistan, Lahore. He was awarded Pride of Performance Award by the President of Pakistan in 1992 for his services to the nation.

Tariq Aziz was not only a host or film actor but also an Urdu poet who had a deep interest in Urdu as well as Punjabi poetry. He could memorize thousands of poems, verses, and lyric poems of famous Urdu language poets including Habib Jalib, Majeed Amjad, and Allama Iqbal.

Even while hosting Neelam Ghar, Tariq Aziz used to recite several poems of “Uche Burj Lahore De” (Punjabi poetry) and poems of Majeed Amjad such as; “Hum two siah naseeb gain Tariq k Jahan kholein dukaan qafn ki you sab marna chorden.”

He was the first comperer on PTV, whose voice, style, and delivery had a lasting effect on the eyes and hearing of every listener and viewer. When Pakistan Television first started its broadcasting, Tariq Aziz started it.

In those days, every artist and actor of Pakistan Television, including Tariq Aziz, was a national artist and actor because PTV was the only channel that started broadcasting in the 1960s.

Very few people know about him is Tariq Aziz has not only acted in films in Urdu language but he has also acted in Punjabi movies. He acted in about 36 Urdu and 4 Punjabi movies.

Moreover, Tariq Aziz was elected a member of the National Assembly in 1997 and was awarded many honors and awards, including the Pride of Performance for his services.  

Tariq Aziz inherited his love for his homeland Pakistan because his father had started adding Pakistani to his name with Mian Abdul Aziz 10 years before the country was formed. Today, after his death, PTV lost its first male comperer and the world has lost a good man.
