The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has dismissed as false a notification circulating on social media claiming that September 6 would be a public holiday in observance of Pakistan’s Defense Day.
In a post from its official “Fact Checker” account on X (formerly Twitter), the Ministry stated, “The notification circulating on social media regarding a public holiday on September 6 for Defense Day is fake.”
The post further added, “Spreading fake news is not only unethical and illegal, but it also harms the nation. It is the duty of everyone to reject such irresponsible behavior.”
Pakistan observes September 6 as National Defense Day to honor the sacrifices of soldiers during the 1965 War with India, commemorating the country’s defense against Indian forces that crossed the border. While the day was once an official holiday, it has not been a public holiday in Pakistan since 1998.
