Social media was abuzz on Tuesday with claims suggesting an attempted assassination of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, however, these claims turned out to be false.
These claims, which rapidly circulated on X (formerly Twitter), alleged that a heavily armed security convoy, purportedly carrying the Saudi crown prince and other high-ranking officials, was bombed in Riyadh.
Videos purportedly depicting the assassination attempt also made rounds on the micro-blogging platform. Reports indicated that the alleged incident prompted a significant deployment of security forces in the capital city.
However, there was no official confirmation regarding the purported assassination attempt on the Saudi crown prince.
BBC journalist Shayan Sardarizadeh debunked these claims as “completely baseless.” In a post on X, he addressed the issue, stating, “A totally baseless claim about an assassination attempt on Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is going viral on X after being shared by fake osint accounts and well-known misinformation spreaders seeking engagement. There’s zero evidence for the claim,” effectively putting an end to the speculation.
Meanwhile, BRICS News also refuted the reports of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s assassination, branding them as false. They clarified, “Reports of Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman surviving an assassination attempt are unfounded. MBS was not the target of any assassination attempt; this is misinformation.”
Regarding the video allegedly depicting the assassination attempt, Siasat.com reported that it was actually footage from a fire incident in Riyadh, managed by the Civil Defense on March 16, 2024.
