Export increased by 5.8% in July 2020 despite lockdown: Adviser

ISLAMABAD: Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood has said that Pakistan witnessed an increase in exports despite the coronavirus lockdown.

The adviser said that according to the trade summary report, exports for the month of July 2020 increased by 5.8 percent, in terms of dollar value, as compared to the same month last year.

He said this is a remarkable achievement that exports are moving forward despite the ongoing coronavirus-enforced lockdown. He thanked exporters for the achievement despite hoped the trend will continue.

“In spite of the fact that we still have Covid related smart lockdowns, our export-led ‘Make in Pakistan’ is moving forward. I wish to congratulate all our exporters on this remarkable achievement and hope this trend will continue to accelerate,” he said.

According to the Trade Summary Report by the Ministry of Commerce, exports in July 2020 were $1,998 million, while they were $1,889 in July last year. This shows an increase of $109 million or a difference of 5.80 percent.

The imports in July 2020 were $3,540 million while the were recorded at $3,696 in July last year, showing a decrease of $156 million of 4.20 percent.

The current account deficit was $1,542 million in July 2020 compared to $1,808 in July 2019 showing a difference of $266 million. This shows a significant decline of 14.70 percent since the past one year.
