KARACHI: Experts have warned that the number of coronavirus patients might reach four million in July and August across Pakistan.
In this regard, Pakistan Medical Association’s Lahore chapter president Prof Ashraf Nizami expressed concern over the upcoming situation. He warned that the number of coronavirus patients may reach up to four million while the death toll might rise to 80,000.
Prof Saeed Khan of Dow University of Health Sciences also expressed similar concerns and said that the number of positive patients and deaths might multiply four to five times in the coming months. If the people would not follow the SOPs, the number of patients might surge more than a million, the research stated.
Prof Mukhtar Zaman, a physician from a private hospital in KPK, said if 100,000 tests are conducted daily, the positive cases may rise to 50,000 in the province.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases has surged to 188,926 in the country. According to the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), more than 3,892 cases of coronavirus were reported while 60 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.
As many as 77,754 patients have recovered from the disease, while the country is still witnessing a consistent rise in the COVID-19 cases. Pakistan’s government has identified 500 coronavirus hotspots across the country to be targeted in its smart lockdown strategy.
