LAHORE: An environmental emergency has been imposed in Punjab due to smog.
According to details, due to smog in Punjab, the caretaker government of Punjab has announced to keep schools, colleges and universities closed from Thursday to Sunday. All markets and shopping malls will also remain closed from November 9 to 12.
The caretaker government has announced to keep government offices, restaurants, cinemas, parks, and gyms closed from November 9 to 12 due to smog in Punjab. A ban was also imposed on unnecessary movement of people in 8 districts of Punjab.
The government said that during the environmental emergency, bakeries and pharmacies would remain open, and public transport would also continue to operate. Section 144 has been implemented in 8 cities of the province for 3 days.
Meanwhile, the burning of crops, garbage, tires, polythene bags, plastic, rubber and leather was banned. Section 144 has been applied to Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Nankana Sahib and Kasur apart from Lahore.
The cities where Section 144 has been implemented include Narowal, Sialkot and Hafizabad. Due to smog, the citizens of Punjab are facing difficulty in breathing. Environmental emergency is being implemented to protect the health of citizens.
