K-Electric has been granted an average electricity supply tariff set at Rs. 39.97 per unit. This revised tariff, approved by the relevant regulatory authorities, reflects a significant adjustment in the cost at which electricity will be supplied by K-Electric.
According to details, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued its decision on K-Electric’s seven-year average electricity supply tariff. According to NEPRA, K-Electric’s seven-year electricity supply tariff will be applicable from 2023-24 to 2029-30. This tariff is 18% higher compared to K-Electric’s previous tariff.
Previously, K-Electric’s seven-year tariff period ended on June 30, 2023. In NEPRA’s decision, K-Electric has been given an average electricity supply tariff of Rs. 39.97 per unit for the year 2023-24. According to sources, K-Electric’s previous tariff was Rs. 33.82 per unit.
The new tariff for K-Electric is 34% higher than the base tariff of DISCOs for 2023-2024. According to NEPRA’s decision, K-Electric’s supply tariff for 2023-24 includes: electricity purchase cost of Rs. 31.96 per unit, transmission cost of Rs. 2.86, distribution cost of Rs. 3.31, and a supply margin of Rs. 2.28 per unit.
Under the adjustment from the previous year, a deduction of Rs. 0.44 per unit has been made. NEPRA states that K-Electric’s new average electricity supply tariff will not impact consumers, as uniform electricity rates are applied nationwide. The increase in K-Electric’s tariff will be covered by the federal government’s subsidy.
According to NEPRA, K-Electric has been given a target to increase its collection rate from 93.25% to 96.50% over the seven-year period.
