ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan has released the statistics of candidates for the general elections in 2024.
According to the details, around 5,121 candidates will contest for 266 general seats in the National Assembly. 4,807 male and 312 female candidates are in the field for the 266 general seats of the National Assembly.
The Election Commission stated that the number of independent candidates is more than the number of candidates of political parties. There are 1,873 candidates including 1,780 men and 93 women contesting the general seats on the tickets of various political parties, while out of 3,248 independent candidates, 3,27 men, 219 women, and 2 transgenders are in the field.
At least 12,695 candidates will contest the general seats of provincial assemblies, including 4,158 political parties and 8,536 independent candidates. 6,710 candidates will contest for the Punjab assembly.
1,874 candidates of the Punjab Assembly belong to different political parties while 4,836 candidates will contest as independent candidates. Out of 2,878 candidates of the Sindh Assembly, 949 belong to political parties while 1,929 are independent candidates.
Officials say that out of 1,834 candidates of the KPK Assembly, 801 are from political parties while 1,033 are independent candidates. Out of 1,273 candidates in the Balochistan Assembly, 534 are from political parties and 739 are independent candidates.
