Ramadan is a sacred month of fasting, prayer, self-reflection, and charitable acts for Muslims worldwide. During this period, those observing the fast refrain from food, drink, and other physical needs from dawn to sunset. As the month progresses, anticipation grows for Eidul Fitr, one of the most significant Islamic festivals, celebrated on the first day of Shawwal.Â
The exact date of Eidul Fitr is determined by the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon, a long-standing Islamic tradition that marks the festival’s commencement.
According to the Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council, Eidul Fitr in 2025 is expected to fall on March 31. The crescent moon is anticipated to be visible across most regions of the country on Sunday, March 30. Experts from the Ruet committee state that by the evening of March 30, the Shawwal moon will be over 26 hours old, meeting the necessary age criteria for visibility.

This year, Eidul Fitr is expected to bring an extended holiday period. The first three days of Eid are likely to fall from Monday to Wednesday, aligning with the preceding weekend. Many Pakistanis are hopeful for a long festive break, with speculation of an official five-day holiday from March 29 to April 2.
If additional leave is granted on Thursday and Friday, the holiday period could extend to nine days, from March 29 to April 6. However, the final holiday schedule will depend on the official moon sighting announcement.
