ISLAMABAD: The government has augmented the quarterly cash grant for 4.3million beneficiaries of Ehsaas Kifalat Programme of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) from Rs5,000 to Rs 5,500.
Special Assistant on Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection Dr. Sania Nishtar said in a statement on Saturday. In a statement, she said this raise would signify that the government will provide 8.6 billion rupees more for cash transfers to the deprived people of the country.
The statement further stated that BISP has now 4.27 million beneficiaries after delisting 0.82 million unworthy people, adding that the augmented remuneration will be given only to the justified beneficiaries.
On Dec 26, Dr Sania Nishtar said that the government had determined to sock 820,165 undeserving people from Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) list.
“The people were aloof from the BISP program list not fit to meet the merit. The deserving people had been apportioned after a survey conducted 10 years ago which is apparently enough to vary condition.
The people data cannot match with merit list of were being paid since 2011, adding that the government took the decision to forbid government servants to get registered in the BISP.”
