The Sindh government has unveiled a new e-taxi initiative aimed at generating employment opportunities for the province’s youth.
Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that the program will enable young individuals to own and operate electric taxis through a subsidized scheme. The cost of the vehicles will be shared between the government, banks, and the participants.
During a meeting in Karachi, Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon engaged with representatives from the Chinese automobile manufacturer GAC and Dewan Motors. Chu Song, General Manager of GAC, provided an in-depth presentation on electric vehicles, exploring various strategies for introducing electric taxis in Sindh.
Memon pledged the Sindh government’s full cooperation to facilitate GAC’s investment. He assured support for infrastructure development, including establishing charging stations, simplifying regulatory processes, and fostering a business-friendly environment for investors.
He emphasized that the initiative will not only offer safe, modern transportation options but also contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing carbon emissions. Moreover, it will generate significant employment opportunities.
As part of the project, a Pink Taxi service will be launched, specifically catering to women passengers to ensure safe and reliable transportation. Memon expressed the government’s commitment to fast-tracking the launch of these eco-friendly taxis, allowing citizens to benefit from modern and sustainable travel solutions.
