LAHORE: The Speaker of the Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Wednesday withdrew all the powers assigned to Deputy Speaker Dost Mazari.
On the issue of convening a session of the Punjab Assembly, the orders for the session by Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Dost Mazari were termed ineffective and it was said that the steps to call on a session were illegal.
As per the spokesperson of the Punjab Assembly, the session will be held on April 16, while Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi withdrew all the powers assigned to the Deputy Speaker. There was no diary number or record of the Deputy Speaker’s orders.
Earlier on Wednesday, Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly, Sardar Dost Muhammad Mazari had summoned the Punjab Assembly session on April 6, 2022.
The Deputy had summoned the session for the election of the Chief Minister under Article 130 of the Constitution.
It is pertinent to mention here that earlier the session of the Punjab Assembly was summoned on April 16 at 11:30 am.
The deputy speaker in his order said that instead of the earlier announced date of April 16 at 11:30 am, the next sitting of the 40th session of the Punjab Assembly will now be held on April 6 (Wednesday) at 7:30 pm.
In order to be elected as a chief minister in the 371-member house, a candidate will need at least 186 votes.
It is pertinent to mention here that PTI on Wednesday presented a no-trust motion against the deputy speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari, while PML-N has announced to present a no-confidence motion against Speaker Pervaiz Elahi.
