Former governor of the State Bank of Pakistan Dr Shamshad Akhtar has been appointed caretaker finance minister, it emerged on Wednesday.
The development comes as the process of appointing key members of the cabinet under caretaker prime minister Anwaar-ul-Haq continues amid widespread speculation.

It should be noted that Shamshad Akhtar, a Pakistani development economist, diplomat and intellectual, has served as the 14th Governor of SBP, the first woman to assume this position. She also served as a senior adviser to Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon and the Vice-President of the World Bank.
