KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) has approved the bail of the main suspect in the case of the alleged suicide of a young girl in the sea near Do Darya area of Karachi.
The incident happened earlier this year when Dr Sarah Malik, aged 23, allegedly committed suicide after jumping into the sea. She was employed at a local veterinary hospital.
Sarah’s father registered an FIR at Sahil Police Statio and held the hospital’s owner Shan Saleem, and Dr Bisma responsible for his daughter’s suicide.
The high court has approved the bail of the accused Shan Saleem and ordered him to deposit a bond of two lakh rupees. The court directed the trial court to dispose of the case in two months. The court said if accused Shaan Salem causes delay in the trial of the case, the bail can be revoked.
During the hearing, police said the dead body of Dr Sara was recovered from Seaview on January 6, 2023. A case of abduction and murder of the deceased has been registered in Sahil police station, police said
Sheikh Saqib, the accused’s lawyer, said the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge South had rejected the bail plea on April 18. The accused’s lawyer said the victim committed suicide and the allegations against the suspect are baseless. He said there is no eyewitness to the incident.
The prosecution said the accused is accused of murdering Dr Sarah. The accused had deleted the CCTV footage of Cameron installed in his office, the lawyer informed the court.
