At least five people, including two doctors, lost their lives after sudden flash floods struck the Babusar-Thak Road in the Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan on Tuesday.
The victims were part of a 22-member tourist group from Lodhran, Punjab, comprising members of the Shahida Islam Medical and Teaching Hospital.
Among the deceased were Dr. Fahad Islam and Dr. Mishal Fatima Saad — the latter being the wife of Saad Islam, one of the hospital’s co-owners. Tragically, the couple’s young son was also swept away by the torrent and remains missing.
Saad Islam, who sustained a leg fracture, is reportedly in stable condition and conscious.
The deceased were close colleagues of Dr. Affan Qaiser, a prominent gastroenterologist and social media personality who currently heads the Department of Gastroenterology at Shahida Islam Medical Complex in Lodhran.
Local authorities have launched search and recovery operations in the area, which has experienced a spike in flash flooding amid ongoing monsoon rains.
