More than twenty prisoners staged a breakout from Rawalakot District Jail by seizing police officers as hostages. Reports indicate that the detainees opened fire on officers, injuring one inmate who was subsequently apprehended.
According to law enforcement, some of the escaped prisoners are considered highly dangerous criminals. During a shootout on the outskirts of the city, one prisoner was fatally wounded in an exchange of gunfire between police and inmates.
Most of the fugitives were facing either execution or serving life sentences. Police are actively pursuing the escaped prisoners to restore order in the neighborhood. A significant police presence has been deployed, and authorities have released a list of the fugitives.
SSP Rawalakot stated that a search operation is underway to capture the fleeing prisoners. The deceased prisoner was involved in a narcotics trafficking case, and an investigation is ongoing. District jail staff members have been detained in connection with the incident.
In a separate incident in Chaman, Balochistan, several prisoners managed to escape during Fajr prayers when they overpowered guards in Barrack No. 4. The convicts executed a coordinated attack, seizing control of the situation and fleeing the prison premises.
