The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has launched the ‘Pak NDMA Disaster Alert’ mobile app to enhance community engagement and provide timely risk communication to the public.
This app will generate alerts and update guidance for all organizations and individual responders in both national and provincial languages, including audio and video formats.
The alerts will enable people and responders to promptly implement disaster management plans, helping them stay ahead of crises before they occur.
Geo-tagged alerts will detail likely impacts and suggest actions to be taken at both individual and community levels.
It should be noted that the Met Office has predicted above-average monsoon rains this year, with flash and urban flooding. Pre-monsoon rains have already started in different parts of the country, while the monsoon season will begin in the middle of this month.
In Karachi and other major cities, local administrations have started preparing for the season. Drainage lines are being cleared, and other necessary measures are being taken.
