KARACHI: Land Department of District Municipal Corporation (DMC) Korangi is allegedly extorting money by illegally issuing ‘fine receipt’ to citizens holding open-air weddings.
According to details, the officials of the land department are allegedly threatening the wedding organizers to pay a ‘challan’ of Rs30,000 to Rs50,000 for violating standard operating procedures (SOPs).
However, according to the sources, the land department hasn’t received any orders for issuing ‘challans’ in this regard. Relevant sources informed that the corrupt officials are extorting money in several areas of the district, including Landhi, Malir Model Colony, Shah Faisal Colony.
In order to save their events from being ruined, the citizens are forced to pay illegal challans. When asked in this regard, Director Land DMC Korangi Wasif Zafar told M.M News that the department had received verbal instructions from the District Korangi Administrator. “
“If we issue a ‘challan’ for land utilization, then it will be our responsibility to implement the SOPs,” Wasif Zafar remarked. However, he didn’t provide any official document in this regard.
