Disney+ Hotstar on Sunday announced that it would stream a new Telugu original called ‘Jhansi’ staring stars Anjali, Chandini Chowdary, Adarsh Balakrishna, Raj Arun and Samyukta Hornad on 27 October.
According to a reporty by the media consultancy company Ormax, Disney+ Hotstar had the highest viewership of Hindi-language OTT originals in India during the first half of 2022. Five of the top 10 most watched original shows were streamed on the site.
Disney+ Hotstar’s Ajay Devgn starrer ‘Rudra: The Edge of Darkness’ (35.2 million views) was ranked as the top show across all platforms, followed by the third season of ‘Aashram’ on MX Player (34.3 million views), and the second season of ‘Panchayat’ on Amazon Prime Video (29.5 million views). “A Thursday” (25.5 million) and “Moon Knight” (23.4 million), both original films and foreign series, received the most viewers over the course of six months.
However, Amazon’s ‘Panchayat’ was the most liked show in the time frame considered followed by SonyLIV’s ‘Rocket Boys5’, said the report. Ormax is a tracking, testing and analytics-led consulting firm for television and streaming services, among others.
Other Hotstar Hindi originals that made the top 10 list were suspenseful thrillers and human dramas like “The Great Indian Murder” (23 million), “Human” (19.6 million), “Masoom,” (16.4 million), and “Escaype Live,” (16.1 million).
With 21.2 million views, Kangana Ranaut’s reality series “Lock Upp,” which was shown on MX Player and ALTBalaji, was also mentioned.
