Renowned Islamic scholar Maulana Tariq Jamill’s son Asim Jameel was killed in mysterious circumstances on Sunday.

Maulana Asim Jameel died of a bullet wound, according to Police officials.

After being taken to Talamba Rural Health Center in critical condition, he passed away from his wounds.

The police officials haven’t confirmed so far whether Asim Jameel had committed the suicide.

“The cause of death should be determined in the light of evidence and forensic report,” he said.

“Nephew of Tariq Jameel has claimed that Asim Jameel shot himself,” Salamat added.

IG Punjab Police Inspector General Dr Usman Anwar has also taken notice of the incident and directed the DPO to collect forensic evidence to ascertain the reason behind the death of Asim Jamil.

The Crime Scene Unit and Forensic Lab teams have been dispatched to collect evidence. The death was being “closely investigated” and action would be taken as per the rules, according to the police.

On the other hand, Maulana Tariq Jamil took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm the demise of his son.

“My son Asim Jamil passed away today in Tulamba. This accidental death has made the atmosphere mournful,” he wrote.

The religious scholar added, “We request you [people] all to remember us in your prayers on this miserable occasion. May Allah grant my son a high place in Jannat.”

“We all share your grief over this accident,” PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif said as he also condoled the family.
