KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has apprehended its Deputy Director over allegations of facilitating individuals accused of embezzlement in exchange for monetary benefits, ARY News reported on Sunday.
Reportedly, NAB’s Karachi and Islamabad chapters collaborated in a joint operation to arrest Deputy Director Imran Shaikh, accused of accepting bribes from individuals detained on corruption and embezzlement charges.
A one-day transit remand for Deputy Director Imran Shaikh has been secured by the corruption watchdog, with plans to transfer him to Islamabad on Monday.
In a separate incident on February 16, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested 15 suspects, including seven officials from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and Passport Immigration, in connection with the issuance of counterfeit Pakistani passports to Afghan nationals.
Among those arrested by the FIA are three Assistant Directors from Passport Immigration and four officers from NADRA, alongside four agents and five Afghan nationals.
The FIA’s actions were prompted by complaints filed by NADRA and the Passport Office.
