Demand for governor’s rule in Sindh: Will the business community’s issues be resolved?

Will the business community’s issues be resolved

Will the business community’s issues be resolved

After the strict corona lockdown, the business community gave a 72-hour ultimatum to the Sindh government to reverse restrictions and also demanding the center to impose Governor’s Rule in Sindh, after which a new confrontation broke out between the federation and the province.

Just a day after the business community gave a 72-hour ultimatum to the provincial government to meet their demands, including an extension of business, the trade bodies started gaining political as on Thursday the Pakistan ruling party Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) vowed that it would not bear immoderation with the business community in the metropolis and also defends the demands of Governor’s Rule.

The demand for Governor’s Rule in Sindh is not new. Earlier this demand was made by PTI and now it is being made by the business community but the objectives of the same demand were different.

The PTI wants to replace the PPP in the Sindh Assembly with its own representatives to form a new government, while the business community’s only goal is to promote business, as they fed up with the restrictions imposed by the provincial government to curb the spread of COVID-19. Let’s take a look at the different facts and try to find out what the next step of the federation will be.

Reactions of Sindh, Center

Economy and Health are the two key issues facing almost every country in the globe ever since COVID-19 emerged as an epidemic that had, and still has, the potential to harm the individual race irreparably.

In this situation, Prime Minister Imran Khans’s steps in this regard are praiseworthy, which was why (and for some other unexplainable reasons), fortunately, Pakistan is a country not as roughly affected by the pandemic as some other countries in the world.

The country’s poor people would die of hunger if a strict lockdown continues like in other countries. The business is normal and open across the country, including different parts of Sindh, however, the law and severe restrictions are from time to time only enforced in Karachi.

The Sindh government was and still is trying to scandalize the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) and exploiting the situation to defame the national body.

The Sindh government used the name of the NCOC when it found it in its favor, although violated the instructions of the national body when it found NCOC decisions against its political interests as the Sindh ruling party organized several political gathering and other activities.

Several steps of the Sindh government to contain the spread of the virus were not in line with NCOC announcements. To curb the coronavirus, the Sindh government imposed a night lockdown, under which even citizens cannot leave their homes unnecessarily after 8 pm.

Several shops were fined and sealed in different areas of the metropolis. After 6 pm, no business was allowed except for essential, which disturbed the business community.

Demands of the business community

The trade bodies gave a 72-hour ultimatum to the provincial government to meet their nine demands, including the extension of business hours.

The business community demanded that only one holiday instead of 2 weekly and business be allowed from 8 am to 8 pm. They also demanded that the federal government transfer the Sindh police boss and chief secretary as they had failed to implement the lockdown in its true spirit in the metropolis.

Issues must be resolved

In the name of lockdown, the problems of the business community have increased immensely. The business community says that the police pick up without the shopkeeper any reason and took bribes.

The Sindh government should protect the business community from policing the business hours should be increased from 6 am to 8 pm. The provincial government should also implement only one holiday instead of two in a week.

The efforts of the federal government would crucial in addressing the business community furthest behind and ensuring the safety of all during this crisis.
