NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old woman from Delhi was sexually assaulted by 25 men after being lured into a forested area by her ‘Facebook friend’ who had promised to introduce her to his parents.
The woman, who approached police nine days later after gaining enough strength, said in her complaint that she had met a man named Sagar on Facebook in January this year and exchanged numbers with him.
After months of talking over the phone, Sagar allegedly proposed marriage to the woman and told her he would like to introduce her to his parents in Palwal’s Hodal village.
On May 3, the woman travelled all the way to Hodal and met Sagar. However, instead of taking her home, Sagar took her to a forest in Ramgarh village. As soon as Sagar reached there with the woman, the others waiting there pounced on her and took turns to rape her the whole night.
The next day, she was taken to a scrap dealer, identified as Akash. There, too, she was allegedly raped by five men. As her condition deteriorated, the five dumped her near the Badarpur border and fled.
On May 12, she approached Hassanpur police station and lodged a complaint of gang rape against Sagar and 24 others. A case was registered under sections 365 (kidnapping), 376D (gang rape), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC.
Meanwhile, Hassanpur police station SHO Rajesh has claimed that they had arrested Sagar on Friday and hoped to nab the others after questioning him.
