KARACHI: Jamat-e-Islami (JI) has announced to stage sit-in before the office Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) at 3pm today to register protest against delay in Local Government elections in Karachi and Hyderabad for multiple times.

Talking to media here on Friday, the chief of JI Karachi Chapter Hafiz Naeem ur Rahman said LG polls shouldn’t have been postponed in Karachi and Hyderabad, and that delimitations could never be changed after the announcement of elections.
He said Sindh government was afraid of people’s mandate and ambushed their rights in the darkness of night.
The Sindh government late last night had announced to scrap LG elections, scheduled for January 15 in Karachi and Hyderabad, citing resentment among coalition partner MQM. The government had accordingly cancelled its notification about number of Union Councils (UCs).

He accused MQM of selling out their mandate to the landed aristocracy and said those who used to level allegations against each other were now presenting themselves as united. He accused ruling partners MQM and PPP of resorting to enmity against the masses, and that their actions had injected higher grade of anger among Karachiites.
The JI Karachi Chief urged people of the Metropolis to rush to ECP office at 3pm today to stage dharna (sit-in), saying if elections were not held, JI would resort to the politics of agitation.
