KARACHI: An investiture ceremony of change of guard in connection with Defence and Martyrs’ Day was held at Quaid-e-Azam Mausoleum in Karachi.
Air Vice Marshal Gazanfar Latif, Air Officer Commanding Pakistan Air Force Academy (PAF) Academy Asghar Khan based in Risalpur, was the chief guest of the ceremony.
On the occasion, a smartly turned-out contingent of the PAF Academy Asghar Khan comprising of 57 cadets took over the guard duties at the mausoleum. Air Vice Marshal Gazanfar Latif laid a floral wreath on the Mazar and offered Fateha.
On the occasion of Pakistan Defence Day, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at Mazar-e-Iqbal in Lahore. Corp Commander Lahore laid a wreath at the tomb while a special prayer for the stability of Pakistan, martyrs and their families were also offered.
Defence and Martyrs Day is being observed to pay tribute to the martyrs and Ghazis of 1965 war with a renewed commitment to defend the motherland against all threats.
It was on this day in 1965 that the Indian forces crossed international border to attack Pakistan, but valiant armed forces, backed by entire nation, foiled the nefarious designs of the enemy.
The day dawned with 31-gun salute at the Federal Capital and 21-gun salute at provincial capitals. Special prayers were offered after Fajr prayer in mosques for the progress and prosperity of the country.
