ABU DHABI: A four-wicket haul by Shahnawaz Dahani helped Multan Sultans defeat Peshawar Zalmi by eight wickets in match 21 of the Pakistan Super League sixth edition.
Mohammad Rizwan scored 82 not out to give Sultan a convincing victory. Opening with Shan Masood, both batsmen found runs easily. Mohammad Irfan gave Zalmi a breakthrough by dismissing Masood in the fourth over.
Rizwan continued reached his half-century in the tenth over to lead his team in the run chase. Sohaib Maqsood also completed his half-century. Rizwan and Maqsood made a 116-run partnership before Maqsood was caught by Umaid Asif when he tried to finish the match with a six.
Rizwan then struck a six on the very next ball to give his side an eight wicket win over Zalmi. He remained unbeaten on 82. Sultans won the match with 21 balls to spare.
Earlier, Sherfane Rutherford’s 40-ball 56 helped Peshawar Zalmi set a 167-run target for the Multan Sultans after Shahnawaz Dahani’s four-wicket haul. Multan Sultans elected to bowl first after winning the toss. Zalmi were poised to post a big total as the team was 71/0 at the end of 8th over.
Dahani was brought in the ninth over by the team captain. Dahani bowled two double-wicket overs as Zalmi crumbled to 88/4. He dismissed Kamran Akmal and Shoaib Mailk and in the 11th over, Haider Ali and Rovman Powell were sent packing to shift the momentum in favour of his team.
David Miller and Sherfane Rutherford to the crease but were no match for Zalmi’s innings. Miller departed for 22 off Blessing Muzarabani’s bowling in the 16th over. Rutherford hit a 40-ball 56 to take Zalmi past 150. He was run out one ball before the end of the innings as Peshawar closed their batting with 166-7.
