KARACHI: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in a raid in Karachi’s Lyari area arrested an activist allegedly belonging to the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ), Ubaid ur Rehman alias Ubaid Capri.
According to a spokesperson, CTD team in a raid at Lyari’s Mirza Adam Khan Road, arrested the accused with a hand grenade. Accused Ubaid Capri has been involved in six incidents of sectarian killings.
“He has been wanted in murder of six persons including former Member of Sindh Assembly (MPA) Sajid Qureshi,” officials claimed. Ubaid Capri was earlier jailed in another offence. He was planning target killing of a key politician.
The CTD spokesperson informed that the arrested accused is the brother of Asim Capri, who was a member of an outlawed group, and handed death sentence by an anti-terrorism court in high profile murder of Qawali maestro Amjad Sabri and other killings.
The spokesperson added that Rehman was in contact with other terrorists in jail and those who were recently released. In 2013, unidentified gunmen killed MPA Sajid Qureshi, his son and a passer-by outside a mosque in Karachi’s North Nazimabad.
