Illegal drug distribution through online delivery networks has become a major issue in Karachi, prompting police and representatives of delivery services to agree on intensifying efforts to curb the growing misuse of these platforms.
Talking to local media, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South, Syed Asad Raza said that he met with representatives of well-known food delivery and ride-hailing companies to discuss the misuse of rider services for drug distribution.
According to the DIG, “The companies informed the police that certain individuals use fake uniforms, helmets, and branded delivery bags to pose as legitimate riders and engage in illegal activities such as drug delivery under this cover.”
To address this threat, both parties agreed to tighten security measures, including stricter rider screening, background verification, and a more rigorous registration process.
DIG Asad Raza said, “Riders will also be formally briefed to ensure compliance with legal and safety regulations.”
The DIG further noted, “The companies also said they would monitor recurring suspicious orders from specific locations in order to prevent illegal activities.”
Moreover, it was agreed that individuals using fake identities or falsely claiming to be company employees involved in unlawful deliveries would be identified and dealt with accordingly.
