ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan will announce the decisions taken by the National Coordination Committee (NCC) today regarding the COVID-19 situation.
The prime minister is currently chairing a second round of the NCC while chief ministers of all the four provinces and other officials are attending it through video link.
After the meeting, the prime minister will announce the final decision to extend the coronavirus lockdown. While several other matters will also be reviewed.
Earlier today, the premier chaired a meeting of the federal cabinet to review the situation. According to the sources, the cabinet has approved extension in the lockdown till 30th April in order to curb the virus from spreading.
After easing the restriction, the daily-wage earners would be allowed to resume their jobs. However, air travel, public transport, public gatherings and marriage halls will remain non-operational.
In the NCC session held yesterday, the cabinet reviewed the country-wide measures taken so far to curb the spread of the coronavirus, the prime minister agreed that a unanimous policy regarding the extension of a lockdown should be followed.
The NCC decided that the construction sector will resume work from April 14 under the first phase of measures taken for economic restoration amid the pandemic. The meeting decided to direct the district administrations to enforce Standard operating procedures (SOP)s regarding the coronavirus while resuming operations.
