ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Affairs Dr. Zafar Mirza has said that cases of coronavirus in Pakistan are lower than our prediction.
Dr. Zafar Mirza said that the government earlier targeted 50,000 potential cases of coronavirus by the end of this month. However, currently, the cases are surging slowly due to lockdown, he added.
While talking about the measures taken by the government to curb the virus, Mirza said that the strategies are being developed accordingly. The government is trying to increase the testing capability of coronavirus, he said.
He also appealed to the people to avoid social distancing and gatherings to prevent coronavirus from spreading as it is contagious. Dr. Zafar Mirza said that the citizens must isolate themselves to reduce the spread of the deadly virus.
He highlighted the ongoing partial lockdown by saying that its strategies were being reviewed on a daily basis. He further said that 70 percent of coronavirus patients died because they had a weaker immune system.
Earlier this week, Mirza announced to establish more laboratories to improve COVID-19 testing capacity in the country. He said that the new laboratories would be set up especially in areas where more people could access them, adding that 32 laboratories will be performing COVID-19 tests soon.
Mirza further said that other than laboratories, the country also needs health experts and certain chemicals to improve the testing process. He also announced that the number of laboratories for COVID-19 screening will be increased to 40 across the country.
