Islamabad: An accountability court on Friday suspended former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar’s permanent arrest warrants until October 7, paving the way for his return to Pakistan.
It should be noted that an accountability court declared former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar a proclaimed offender in a corruption reference in 2017.
According to a NAB reference, the accused acquired properties and financial interests/resources worth approximately Rs831.678 million in his name or the names of his dependents. His assets are out of proportion to his known sources of income, which he is unable to adequately explain.
Judge Muhammad Bashir on Friday ordered that Ishaq Dar should not be arrested on his return to the country and suspended his permanent arrest warrants issued by the NAB until October 7 after his lawyer Qazi Misbah’s guaranteed that Dar would come straight to the court after landing at the airport.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader contested the arrest warrants issued by the NAB court on September 21. Dar appealed against his arrest warrants in a corruption case before AC Judge Azam Khan through his attorney Qazi Misbah.
In his appeal, the former finance minister said that he was prepared to surrender and begged the court to throw down his arrest warrants.
After notifying NAB, the judge continued the hearing to September 23.
