ISLAMABAD: An Islamabad Court on Tuesday discharged senior journalist Ayaz Amir from the murder case of his daughter-in-law Sarah Inam.
Police have already detained Shahnawaz for allegedly killing his Canadian national wife. Shahnawaz reportedly confessed to committing the crime and claimed that he “thought” his wife was having an affair with another person. Only three months of their marriage were spent together.
On Saturday, a trial court approved the arrest warrants of Ayaz Amir and his former wife Sameena Shah, as the two were nominated as suspects by Sarah’s family.
Following the conclusion of his one-day physical remand earlier in the day, Ayaz Amir was brought before the court.
A five-day extension in Ayaz’s physical detention for additional questioning was requested by the police at the beginning of the hearing.
According to the police’s update to the court on the investigation’s status, Ayaz Amir made contact with the main suspect Shahnawaz. They said that Sarah’s parents had arrived in Pakistan.
Ayaz Amir’s attorney continued to argue that his client shouldn’t be included in the case because he had no connection to it.
Ayaz was in Chakwal at the time of the murder, the attorney said, and he reported the crime to the police as soon as he learned about it.
Moreover, the Capital Police on Tuesday recovered an unlicensed Kalashnikov from the custody of Ayaz Amir’s son Shahnawaz along with the purse and Mercedes car of the victim during the murder case of Sarah Inam.
Debit and credit cards in US dollars, UAE dirhams, and the deceased’s pocketbook were all discovered. Along with this, the police squad also found the Mercedes during a search of Shahnawaz’s residence.
Another FIR has been lodged against the suspect Shahnawaz Amir after recovery of the illegal weapon.
