WASHINGTON: The global death toll from the novel coronavirus has jumped to 197,297, infecting more than 2.8 million people globally.
Around 2,831,513 declared cases have been registered in more than 200 countries and territories. Of these cases, at least 778,000 are now considered recovered. The new coronavirus was first emerged in China’s Hubei province Wuhan, in December 2019, and has since spread worldwide.
In the United States, nearly 925,038 cases were confirmed, including more than 52,185 deaths. The US reported an increase of 1,900 deaths in the past 24 hours. France has reported 389 deaths in a single day, taking the tally to 22,245 deaths and 159,828 cases.
Spain has recorded 22,500 fatalities with 367 in a single day and 219,764 infections. Italy, which recorded its first coronavirus death at the end of February, has 25,900 fatalities, with 420 people succumbing to the disease in the last 24 hours.
China has to date declared 4,632 deaths and 82,816 cases, with 77,346 recoveries. The United Kingdom has reported 768 deaths during the last 24 hours, 19,500 fatalities, and 143,464 infections.
Meanwhile, the death toll is 5,574 in Iran as a confirmed number of cases is almost 88,194. India has reported 18,985 confirmed cases and 603 deaths from COVID-19 in 31 states and union territories since its first case on 30th January.
According to details, most of the countries where the coronavirus cases on peak declared a state of national emergency and lockdowns. Precautionary steps are being taken by governments in several countries across the world suffering from coronavirus.
