The U.S. State Department has confirmed that Donald Lu, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, has concluded his term as of January 17, 2025.
The announcement clarifies that Mr. Lu’s departure is a result of the completion of his tenure, rather than any dismissal. A brief statement posted on the department’s official website confirmed, “Mr. Lu’s term ended on January 17, 2025.”
Mr. Lu led the Bureau, which manages U.S. relations with Pakistan, since his appointment on September 15, 2021. Before this role, he served as U.S. Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic from 2018 to 2021 and as Ambassador to Albania from 2015 to 2018.
