Karachi is experiencing a drop in temperature and an increase in the intensity of winter, with cold winds sweeping through the city in recent days.
According to Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz, strong winds are further intensifying the cold weather in the city. He mentioned that the temperature could drop even further in the coming days, especially during the first week of January when cold winds from Quetta are expected to reach Karachi.
Sardar Sarfraz forecasted that tonight, the temperature could drop to between 8 to 11 degrees Celsius, with daytime temperatures expected to reach a maximum of 23 to 25 degrees Celsius. Reports also suggest cold nights in nearby districts like Thar and Badin, where temperatures in Badin have already dropped to 9 degrees Celsius.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has further indicated that this cold wave will intensify in the second week of January. Sardar Sarfraz mentioned that a further drop in temperature is expected during this period. While light rain is predicted in some parts of Balochistan between January 3 to 5, the overall snowfall and rainfall this year are expected to be less than in previous years.
Due to the intense cold, Karachi’s temperature has already dipped to single digits on several occasions, while many areas in Balochistan have seen temperatures fall to below freezing. The PMD has advised that cold and dry weather is expected in most areas, with very cold conditions anticipated in mountainous regions during the morning and night.
Light rain and snowfall are expected in Kashmir and its adjoining mountainous areas in the evening and night, while fog may persist in some plains of Punjab and Sindh during the morning and night. According to recent temperature reports, Skardu recorded 11°C, Gilgit 7°C, and Quetta and Ziarat 6°C.
