RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa Monday called for global convergence to avert a looming humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan as the world and the region cannot afford unstable country.
He was talking to US Special Representative for Afghanistan Mr Thomas West, who called on him in Rawalpindi today (Monday).
During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, current security situation in Afghanistan and bilateral cooperation opportunities in the context were discussed.
The Army Chief thanked the dignitary for participating in the 17th Extraordinary Session of Council of Foreign Ministers of Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
Thomas West appreciated Pakistan’s role in Afghan situation, special efforts for effective Pak-Afghan border management and pledged to play his part for further improvement in diplomatic cooperation with Pakistan at all levels.
He hailed Pakistan’s efforts for organizing the Extraordinary Session.

A specially convened meeting of the 57 member states of the OIC Sunday vowed to play a leading role in delivery of humanitarian assistance to the people of war-torn Afghanistan and unanimously agreed on establishing a Humanitarian Trust Fund, launch a Food Security Programme and engage with the World Health Organization for securing vaccines and medical supplies.
The meeting of the 17th Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, held on the initiative of Saudi Arabia and hosted by Pakistan was attended by around 70 delegates from the member states, international aid agencies and special representatives.
