Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has advised citizens to ensure that buildings have obtained all necessary approvals before purchasing flats.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, Shah expressed sorrow over the Lyari building collapse, calling it a deeply distressing incident. He said efforts were made to save lives and that the debris removal operation is expected to be completed today.
He also said that a committee has been formed on the Lyari building accident, the reports will be reviewed in the meeting tomorrow.
Murad Ali Shah further stated that the building recently evacuated in Agra Taj was constructed a few years ago without approval from the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA). He noted that the government is reviewing alternative housing options for residents of over 400 dangerous buildings in Karachi’s old city area.
He directed the citizens to ensure that before buying a flat, urging the citizens to verify whether the building has all necessary approvals.
Speaking about the procession taking place on the occasion of Ashura in Karachi, the Sindh Chief Minister said that efforts have been made to ensure good security arrangements for the procession.
He said that more than 17,500 gatherings have been held in Sindh, security is provided to more than 1,400 gatherings during Muharram in Sindh and 50,000 police personnel are deployed for the security of the processions.
