Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan advised Governor Haji Ghulam Ali on Tuesday to dissolve the provincial assembly.
Imran Khan, the leader of the PTI, is getting closer to keeping his promise to leave the two legislatures where he currently holds office by making the decision, which comes after the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly.
“I, Mahmood Khan, chief minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in pursuance of provisions of Article 112(1) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, do hereby forward my advice for dissolution of KP Assembly on January 17, 2023, at 17:00 hours.” The chief minister’s advice said.

PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said that the KP chief minister, in accordance with the party’s decision and the directives issued by Imran, had forwarded the summary for the dissolution of the provincial assembly.

“If the governor does not dissolve the assembly in 48 hours, it will [automatically] stand dissolved on Thursday,” he said, adding that the move would pave the way for general elections in the country.
The development came days after Chief Minister Parvez Elahi dissolved Punjab Assembly after Governor Baligh Ur Rehman refrained from signing the summary sent to him.
The PTI chairman had announced the dissolution of the assemblies — Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab — in November last year. However, the plans were delayed due to consultations with allies and countermeasures adopted by the ruling allies in the center.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Speaker of the National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf accepted the resignations of 35 PTI members of the lower house of parliament.
Subsequently, a notification to de-seat the lawmakers who had resigned was also issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
